Universal Orlando: three parks, and which ticket to buy
Universal Orlando now runs three theme parks and a water park on one resort.

- A resort of three theme parks, a water park and an entertainment district, built around film and television properties. Epic Universe, the third park, opened in May 2025.

- Orlando, off Universal Boulevard and Kirkman Road, close to International Drive and around an hour from the coast.
- Duration
- Three days is the realistic minimum to see all three parks, and it is also the point at which the ticket structure starts working in your favour.
- Best time to arrive
- At park opening, before the published time if you hold Early Park Admission. The headline rides build their longest queues within the first two hours.
- Admission cost
- Adult tickets start from about $124 for a single day at Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure, $139 for Epic Universe and $80 for Volcano Bay alone. - Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, the two original parks, sit either side of CityWalk. Epic Universe is a separate site a short drive away, and Volcano Bay is the water park.
- Park-to-park
- Park-to-park adds same-day hopping and the Hogwarts Express between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, which a single-park ticket cannot use.
- Express Pass
- A paid queue-skipping product, listed from roughly $120 to $320 per person per day. The premier on-site hotels include it for the two original parks, but not for Epic Universe or Volcano Bay, and at Epic Universe only single-use Express exists.
- One restriction to note
- The best-reviewed park-to-park ticket is sold to residents of the United States and Canada only, and you may be asked for proof of residency when exchanging the voucher. Visitors from elsewhere should buy through Universal directly or choose an unrestricted Viator listing.
What to expect
Islands of Adventure holds the resort's strongest ride line-up, including Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, VelociCoaster and the Marvel and Jurassic areas. It is the park most visitors rate first.
Universal Studios Florida is the film-production park: Diagon Alley and Gringotts, the Simpsons and Springfield, and the studio-backlot attractions. The Hogwarts Express runs between the two Wizarding World areas and requires a park-to-park ticket.
Epic Universe opened in 2025 as the third park, built around five worlds including a Super Nintendo World and a Dark Universe monsters area. It carries the longest queues in the resort and is ticketed separately from the original two.
Volcano Bay is the water park, built around a 200-foot volcano, with a virtual queue system that removes most of the standing in line.
CityWalk sits between the parks and needs no ticket: restaurants, bars, a cinema and live music, and it is where most evenings end.
The honest takeaway
Reviews are strongly positive on the rides and the theming, and consistently critical of cost and queues.
What visitors praise
- Outstanding ride design. Even sceptical visitors single out the major attractions as best in class.
- The Wizarding World. The detail of Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and now the Ministry of Magic is the most praised element of the resort.
- Strong in bad weather. A high proportion of headline rides are indoors.
- Multi-day tickets work. Three days or more brings the daily rate down sharply and now unlocks Epic Universe throughout.
What visitors find difficult
- Expensive once extras are added. Express Pass alone runs from about $120 to over $300 per person per day, before parking and food.
- The ticket structure is genuinely confusing. Single park against park-to-park, and how many days it takes to include Epic Universe, catches out most first-time visitors.
- Long queues without Express. Peak-season waits of well over an hour are routine, and Epic Universe has no unlimited Express option at all.
- Epic Universe is a separate site. Getting there and back costs time that the two original parks never did.

Getting there
The original parks sit off Universal Boulevard and Kirkman Road with large paid parking garages and a walkway to the entrances. Epic Universe has its own entrance and car park a short drive south, connected by resort shuttles.
Many International Drive hotels run shuttles. Staying on site adds early park entry, and the premier hotels include Express Pass for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, though not for Epic Universe.
How to make the most of the day
- 1Buy three days or more if Epic Universe matters. Shorter tickets include at most one separate Epic day, the per-day rate falls steeply after the first, and promotional 3-day tickets have been adding two extra days free.
- 2Take park-to-park if Harry Potter matters. The Hogwarts Express between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade is only available on that ticket.
- 3Arrive before opening. The first ninety minutes are worth twice as much as any other part of the day.
- 4Price Express Pass honestly before buying. For a family it can exceed the cost of the tickets, and single-rider queues are free.
- 5Avoid the peak weeks if you can. Mid-January, mid-September and early December are the cheapest and quietest dates.

Epic Universe opened on 22 May 2025, the first entirely new theme park in Orlando in more than 25 years, and Universal rebuilt its whole ticket menu around it for 2026. Because ticket products, park hours and included benefits are still changing, confirm what a given ticket covers for your exact dates rather than relying on older advice.
