Getting there
Coco Bongo sits in Plaza Forum by the Sea at Boulevard Kukulcán km 9.5, Punta Cancún, in the heart of the hotel zone. If you are staying in the zone it is walkable or a short taxi. From downtown Cancún the R1 and R2 buses run the length of Kukulcán and stop nearby, boarding at Mercado 28 or the ADO terminal. A private shuttle for a group runs around $30. Agree your return trip before the night starts, as the club empties in the early hours.
How to make the most of the day
- 1Buy in advance and consider Gold Member. It removes the queue, gets you in early and secures a seat, which is what makes the difference on a busy night.
- 2Arrive at check-in time, not showtime. Seats within each tier are first come, first served.
- 3Bring photo ID. Over 18 only, and a passport or driving licence is checked at the door.

Coco Bongo opened in Cancún in 1997 and built its reputation on a format that was unusual at the time: not a nightclub with a DJ, but a continuous variety show performed above and around the crowd. Aerial acrobats work from rigging over the floor, tribute performers cover Queen, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Madonna and Guns N' Roses, and film sequences play across giant screens between acts. The venue's signature number is drawn from The Mask, filmed partly in Cancún, and the club leans on that association heavily.
The commercial model is worth understanding before you buy. Admission is sold as a package rather than a cover charge, and every tier includes an open bar, which is why the headline price looks steep next to an ordinary club. The tiers differ in three things: how long you queue, where you stand or sit, and whether your drinks come from the standard or premium menu. Nothing about the show itself changes between them.
The format proved successful enough to export, and Coco Bongo now operates in Playa del Carmen and Punta Cana alongside the original Cancún venue. Each runs the same concept with its own cast, so a visitor who has seen one will recognise most of the programme at another.
